Shop Wall Bed Sofas →What is a wall bed with couch? Also known as a sofa bed or murphy bed sofa, this clever piece of furniture hides a full-size bed inside a couch. When closed, it looks like a stylish sofa; when opened, it provides a comfortable sleeping surface for guests or everyday use.

- Built-in storage drawers (select models)
How to Choose the Perfect Wall Bed Sofa
1. Measure Your Space
Before buying, measure the wall where the bed will be installed. Most wall bed sofas require 80–90 inches of width and 30–40 inches of depth when closed. Always leave 24 inches of clearance in front for the bed to fold down.
For narrow rooms, consider a small sectional with chaise that offers similar space-saving benefits.
2. Choose the Right Mattress
Most wall bed sofas come with a 6-inch or 8-inch foam mattress. For regular use, opt for a thicker mattress or upgrade to a full sleeper couch with a higher-quality innerspring mattress.
If you're hosting guests often, a queen-size wall bed is the most versatile option.
3. Frame Material & Durability
Look for kiln-dried hardwood frames or heavy-gauge steel mechanisms. Avoid particleboard frames, as they may warp over time. Many premium models include a lifetime warranty on the folding mechanism.
For high-traffic areas, consider a extra-large sectional with recliners for more seating options.
4. Upholstery & Style
Choose from linen, polyester, leather, or performance fabrics. Leather is durable and easy to clean, while fabric offers more color options. Neutral tones like gray, beige, or navy are timeless and pair well with any decor.
For a modern touch, explore a black sectional with pull-out bed that adds a sleek, contemporary vibe.
What's the Cost of a Wall Bed with Couch?
Prices vary by size, material, and brand. Expect to pay $1,200–$3,500 for a quality wall bed sofa. Entry-level models start around $800, while premium custom-built units can exceed $4,500.
Remember that a good wall bed is an investment in your home's functionality and can increase property value, especially in urban areas where space is at a premium.
For budget-friendly options, check out living room sets under $300 that may include sofa beds, though quality may be lower.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a regular mattress on a wall bed?
No. Wall beds require specialized thin mattresses (usually 6–8 inches) that can fold with the mechanism. Standard mattresses are too thick and may damage the frame.
Is assembly difficult?
Most wall bed sofas require professional installation due to the weight and wall-mounting requirements. Some come as flat-pack kits with detailed instructions, but we recommend hiring a handyman.
What's the weight capacity?
Most wall bed sofas support up to 500–600 lbs when in bed mode. Always check the manufacturer's specifications, especially if the bed will be used regularly by two adults.
